Can the Manchester model travel

Can the Manchester model travel?

Greater Manchester is often held up as a model for place-based growth: universities acting as anchor institutions, business and civic leaders working together around shared priorities, and a decade of stable leadership driving regional ambition.

But how much of the Manchester experience can be replicated elsewhere in the UK?

Join NCUB for an evidence-led discussion exploring what the Greater Manchester model can teach us about university-business collaboration, regional innovation and place-based growth.

Bringing together voices from business, universities and Greater Manchester, we will examine:

  • What worked in Greater Manchester?
  • Which elements of the model depended on the city region’s unique circumstances?
  • What lessons can other places take – particularly those without a mayor or an established devolved structure?
  • How can universities and businesses shape regional priorities and innovation ecosystems?

The webinar will explore the record of Greater Manchester over the last decade and consider what lessons can travel as the debate around devolution, innovation and growth continues.
