Stronger places

Collaboration between universities and businesses can play an important part in building stronger places by driving growth and opportunity. The role collaboration plays can vary by the distinct characteristics and contexts of different places.

Universities and businesses, together and individually, make a significant contribution to their local areas through a range of domains, including supporting and driving innovation and entrepreneurship, attracting investment and talent and creating jobs. Many also act as local economic leaders and place-shapers, taking a lead on significant socio-economic issues at a local level.

As a representative organisation for universities and businesses located right across the UK, we focus on how collaboration and partnership can support the needs of different places. We analyse data on collaboration in different places and work to understand the distinct activities, strengths and capabilities of different parts of the UK.

Innovation Collaboration Zones

The NCUB R&D Taskforce recommended that the Government, with UKRI, should establish a network of Innovation Collaboration Zones across the UK aligned to commercial missions.
