A creative and digital cluster housed within an award-winning building brings businesses in rural West Wales together to share resources, expertise and ideas.
Yr Egin (The Seedling) is the name for the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s creative innovation hub located in Carmarthen.
Opened in autumn 2018, Yr Egin represents a bold and transformational development creating a network of creative, media and digital based companies and organisations co-locating to foster collaboration.
UWTSD has ensured the perfect mix of companies in order to maximise the opportunities for the businesses themselves and to encourage the exchange of skills and transfer of knowledge opportunities. Its focus is to unite the creative content and digital sector in order to encourage and promote artistic excellence and bilingualism in south west Wales.
It is structured as a centre of excellence for artistic expression and a creative digital exchange incorporating co-location facilities for companies, entrepreneurs and start-up incubation initiatives within a ‘community of practice’. The objective is to establish, within a bilingual setting, a creative sector specific ‘hub’ which will drive enterprise, establish new job opportunities and develop industry talent.
The co-location of a range of media, digital and cultural companies and organisations as part of a strong regional ecosystem, will create the capacity to deliver high quality productions, digital content, digital convergence platforms and innovative software e.g. 3D/animation/gaming.
Yr Egin’s anchor tenant is S4C, the national Welsh language broadcaster, which provides the University with the added opportunity of attracting a range of creative, digital and cultural companies and organisations into Yr Egin. These companies are in turn, now becoming enthused by, and contributing to, the University’s future academic offer, which is based on the principle of addressing current and future skills gaps. Furthermore, they are contributing to a range of internship, placement and innovation projects being delivered by the University as part of the overall Egin vision.
