lumo-nowSport and fitness products have undoubtedly driven the wearable revolution, with a raft of products designed to measure, track and share our athletic deeds.  For instance, MOOV Now have developed a wearable device that not only tracks what you do, but offers AI driven ‘coaching’ to help you improve your performance.

This is very much a theme we have built on with our partnership with the Californian company Lumo Bodytech to work on wearable technology to help runners with the efficiency, and therefore performance out on the roads and trails.

We have launched the Lumo Run running short to provide runners with real-time feedback on their performance.  This includes feedback on form and technique, thus helping runners to increase their speed and distance whilst also preventing injuries.

The feedback is delivered via a nine axis smart sensor built into the shorts that is capable of tracking our form whilst we run.

The shorts offer users a range of coaching and support, including:

  • A smart sensor that’s integrated directly into the shorts
  • Live, real-time feedback delivered through a smartphone app
  • Ongoing measurement of a range of biomechanic features that can provide insight into running efficiency, stride length, pelvic rotation and cadence

Dr Jonathan Folland, expert in physiology and biomechanics and lead researcher on the project says:

“Our new scientific work has revealed a number of key metrics of running technique that differentiate faster and more efficient runners, which was previously unknown.  To turn these exciting findings into a practical benefit for runners the Loughborough team and Lumo Bodytech have been consulting with elite level coaches and runners to develop Lumo run.

“Recreational runners will now be able to access lab-level feedback thanks to the technology developed by Lumo BodyTech.”
