This report was conducted by CIHE (now NCUB) with the University of Exeter Business School, supported by the Kingston University Business School, as part of the South West Higher Level Skills Pathfinder Project. It summarises the findings from a series of 10 case studies of how higher education (HE) institutions are developing and promoting their strategies for engaging with employers in the development of higher-level skills, and was the third in a series of research reports compiled for the South West Higher Level Skills Pathfinder Project.

Key lessons and points for consideration from the report include the importance of employer engagement to higher education institutions, workforce development not being a priority for all HEIs, the involvement of academics being key to successful employer engagement and the major leadership challenge for higher education of achieving successful employer engagement.
