About the Placement
The purpose of this placement was to work with the industry partner, Clwb Ifor Bach to understand and explore an appropriate programme for the SWN Conference. The SWN Conference takes place as part of the wider SWN music festival providing a forum and important focus for the local community to come together to educate and debate current issues. The focus of the SWN Festival is to support, help develop and promote Welsh music and aligned with the Welsh Government’s Prosperity for all Policy.
The placement also explored the potential of more collaborative opportunities between further educational colleges and work opportunity placements with the music industry.
Outcomes
- The placement led to a successful Conference with a range of interactive workshops, panel sessions and talks around building sustainable careers, accessing key revenue streams and unlock project funding. A vast number of reputable industry partners attended who provided personal insights and practical guidance for students from across South East Wales.
- In all, over 400 attended across the whole conference; there was a real buzz on campus and we are thrilled to be part of a great Festival that is growing in support and stature every year. Our goal at USW is to support, nurture and promote talent, so partnering with Sŵn is a great way to continue to do this on a bigger and better stage. Plans are already underway to build on this year’s success and develop the Conference further in 2020.
