The National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB) welcomes today’s investment by Government in science, research and innovation and Business and Energy Secretary Greg Clark’s recognition of the importance of research and innovation in driving our economy (see here).

David Docherty, Chief Executive said:
“I support wholeheartedly this further stimulus for innovation, improved collaboration between businesses and researchers, and better alignment of research outputs with business needs. Successful industrial strategy is absolutely dependent on well-funded universities, a modern view on skills needs for Industry 4.0, and innovative research from all disciplines.

National Centre members from across the UK – universities of all mission groups, and business from all sectors – are leading in commercialising the UK’s world leading science base and developing graduate talent for business. We are working to make it easier for our members to connect, commercialise and grow access to the research base through the digital platform, konfer.online. And our work experience platform will support widening the skills base and increasing the prospect of social mobility through our work experience platform.

Our work on Growing Value Scotland, similar work in Wales and the Smart Specialisation Hub analysing the strengths and challenges in different places shows the importance of tailored support and we welcome the Local Growth Fund to help create jobs, support businesses and encourage growth.”
