The NCUB welcomes the Universities UK report

The National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB) welcomes the Universities UK report, ‘The power of part-time: review of part-time and mature higher education‘ as an important step forward to better understand the challenging environment part-time higher education faces. Action is now required from government, universities and businesses to revitalise demand for part-time study, and ensure we have an appropriate infrastructure to deliver the training our adult workforce requires in order for the UK to remain internationally competitive.

Commenting on the report, Dr David Docherty, Chief Executive of NCUB said:

“Part-time study is an essential route to ensuring UK businesses can upskill and retrain their staff, and a key component for growth and jobs. NCUB welcomes the findings from the Universities UK review as a timely reminder that action is vital to arrest the concerning decline in part-time and mature students participating in higher education.

NCUB will play an active role helping to shine a light on the businesses and universities already working together to establish innovative part-time courses, and do more to extend this practice further. Government must remain mindful of steps they can take to relieve barriers for business to fund part-time courses for their employees, and consider whether tax incentives can be altered to better stimulate demand.”
