Legal & General have celebrated over 10 years of award winning excellence in the development and delivery of underwriting expertise, in conjunction with Cardiff University.
“The Academy and what we have achieved in our partnership with Cardiff University is something that Legal & General is very proud of.”
Launched in 2002, the Underwriting Academy has built a strong reputation for its unique training programme, specifically designed for underwriting specialists and claims assessors. In that time it has progressed from the delivery of general medical information, to incorporate much more specialised training in such areas as Cardiology, Oncology and Neurology.
This expertise has real commercial benefit in how it helps to inform the management of risk and has received praise and recognition from reinsurance partners. Ultimately it has helped inform the best possible underwriting decisions for customers.
Legal & General increased its market share of critical illness cover from 13% in 2010 to 21% in the first half of 2012.
Russell Whitworth, Claims and Underwriting Director, Retail Protection said:
“The Academy and what we have achieved in our partnership with Cardiff University is something that Legal & General is very proud of. Over the last ten years we have worked together to ensure we deliver relevant and quality learning that meets the business needs and ultimately allows us to make quicker and more informed underwriting decisions for the benefits of our customers.”
Professor Colin Riordian, Vice Chancellor, Cardiff University, said:
“I took up the post of leadership for Cardiff University in September 2012 and was delighted to hear about the many and varied links the University has with business. The partnership with Legal & General is a great example of an innovative collaboration between a visionary business and a leading university. It is strategic partnerships like these between business and university that will drive economic growth and enhance the UK’s reputation globally.”
