i2 media research is a research and strategy consultancy and a spin-off from the Department of Psychology at Goldsmiths. They partnered with industry body the Digital TV Group (DTG) to look at ways to improve the usability of digital TV remote controls.
“On the basis of observation, experiments, qualitative research and large scale surveys we came up with guidelines, recommendations on how to design remote controls that we easy to use” explained Professor Jonny Freeman, managing director of i2.
The DTG adopted these guidelines into their ‘D-Book’ of specifications for UK television. Keith Wilkinson, COO of the Digital TV Group said that working with Goldsmiths “has helped us, at times it’s pushed us, it’s inspired us to deliver”.
