‘Excellence in Postgraduate Education – Manufacturing, Materials and Design’
Monday 25th April 2016 10:00 – 16:00
Location: Stafford Cripps Building, Cranfield University
The UK needs postgraduate education that is distinctive, of value and encourages inclusive participation. Good partnerships are recognised as essential to inclusivity, which contribute to quality, diversity and are crucial for developing postgraduate learner skills. Such partnerships can be for and between postgraduate learners, facilitators and close working relationships with business and industry.
This symposium will develop a community of practice (COP); comprising experts across the fields of manufacturing, materials and design postgraduate education. The COP aims to develop partnerships that will work collaboratively to initiate ideas and research focused on delivering excellence in postgraduate education.
Gain Insight and Share Best Practice. Morning sessions include insight from the HEFCE funded postgraduate experience project in widening and sustaining postgraduate taught study in the UK. Participants from the postgraduate student body, universities, business and industry employers will share best practice in partnerships and collaborations which engage and encourage participation.
Develop Partnerships and Collaborative Projects: The afternoon will be an opportunity for participants to develop partnerships and collaborative projects to get involved and put ideas into practice. Projects will include ways of working across education boundaries, addressing business needs and skills development in manufacturing, materials and design while adopting technology and sharing the learning in postgraduate education.
There will be multiple opportunities for focused debate. Participants will share ideas and experiences of existing excellence in postgraduate education as well as being able to influence future direction. Findings from this event will be publicised in a postgraduate education enhancement paper that will be presented at the National Manufacturing Debate on the 25th May 2016. Copies of the report will be available to all attendees of the event.
