University of Aberdeen

The University of Aberdeen is today at the forefront of teaching, learning and discovery, as it has been since its founding in the year 1495.

"We have a strong track record in working effectively with industry to translate excellence in research into commercial application"

This ambitious, research-driven university attracts outstanding academics from the world’s most prestigious centres of learning, and a multinational student community taking advantage of a unique student experience designed for the 21st century.

Over 518 years the University has developed a strong national and international reputation for being a research-intensive centre of learning. Our academics and alumni have pioneered many developments in medicine, science, social sciences and humanities, and the University is associated with five Nobel Laureates.

Today, as an internationally-renowned research and teaching institution at the heart of Europe's energy capital we are ideally placed to work with all branches of industry and commerce to address the challenges and opportunities we face today.

Our current research portfolio includes world-leading research, impacting at an international level to make a difference. We have identified four priority interdisciplinary themes: Energy, Environment and Food Security, Pathways to a Healthy Life, and ‘The North’. The themes address key challenges of contemporary society, and bring together academics in different specialties to contribute their own perspective and expertise to a topical world problem.

Knowledge exchange is a fundamental part of theme activity, to ensure that research addresses innovative solutions for contemporary problems and issues.

We are committed to engaging with business, policy and public audiences on a wide range of research activity and partnerships, to encourage and inform public debate, benefit society and promote joined-up action to tackle the issues which face our global community in this century.

We have a strong track record in working effectively with industry to translate excellence in research into commercial application and knowledge transfer activities. With its wealth of talent, experience, and breadth of expertise, the University can bring the brightest minds in the business together around any specific challenge, including the benefits and competitive edge gained through a highly trained workforce.

Our Research and Innovation team is the first point of contact for business, facilitating access to the University's researchers, services, and technologies, and offering a range of consultancy, professional development and commercialisation opportunities arising from research activities.
