Power Up: UK Skills

DeloitteThere is a set of enduring transferable skills which power the UK workforce.

Rapid advances in technology are changing fundamentally how work is done. If the predictions of technology disrupting entire industries come to pass, workers will need the ability to move into different types of jobs at different points in their career and apply their underlying transferable ‘human’ skills to different contexts.

Deloitte’s latest Power Up: UK skills report examines the opportunities for employers, educators and policymakers of recognising transferable skills in different occupations, in order to smooth transitions for workers between different industries and occupations.

So what should we do?

To remain competitive, businesses will need a nimble workforce that has strong transferable skills and a confident, adaptable mindset. It is critical that the UK provides support for workers from all backgrounds and all skill levels to navigate a course through the changing future work environment, to achieve growth and prosperity for all.

Creating and improving career pathways for workers will have significant benefits for social mobility, opening up greater choice for workers throughout their lifetime. Improving social mobility and access to education are priorities for Deloitte. Working in partnership with organisations like Teach First, Deloitte’s One Million Futures ambition is helping one million people get to where they want to be, whether it’s in the classroom, the workplace or the boardroom.
